One 60-day journey through the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned several hours later after the crew became aware the woman was missing.

A major search operation found her remains the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the ship were told that the continuation of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".
